River Fleet Exhibition
Pavilion and exhibition celebrating the ‘lost’ River Fleet for the inaugural London Festival of Architecture. It creates a temporary public space on an under-used bridge over the railway in the position of the original River Fleet route.
Included an open air ‘fly’ poster exhibition on the history of the River Fleet and its effect on the development of this part of Clerkenwell. The full route of the Fleet was marked with the banners.
One of the most successful parts of the Festival this year. A great piece of innovative public realm intervention. Renato Benedetti and his team not only designed it but raised all the money and cajoled a variety of sponsors and Islington to build it, even the local fire department filled the artificial ‘River Fleet’ with water. It outlived the Festival for another 2 months and we reckon about 10,000 people saw the exhibition. Renato even dealt with the local fly-posting mafia to ensure it was safe and free of graffiti throughout. An appropriate thought-provoking energising pop-up public space exhibition in one of the oldest parts of London - brilliant!
