London Homeless Centre

Camden, London

Winner of CABE competition for new 35,000 ft² centre for homeless people in London, providing integrated Employment, Benefits and voluntary sector services in one building. Conversion and extension with new central atrium and landscaped courtyard.

Selective demolition creates a new double-height meeting place at heart of the building, surrounded by support facilities in the refurbished existing building. New landscaped external space provides sheltered gathering place off street.

Extensive consultation was required with wide range of stakeholders to address complex issues and balance conflicting needs of security and inclusion.

  • “The architects’ scheme and approach clearly stood out from the competition and they were the obvious winner.  It was very disappointing the project was cancelled by government policy changes. We enjoyed working with them.”
